Shelving old files on the SLD user disk

On February 20th, any file on the SLD user disk that hasn't been accessed since January 5th, 1996 will be automatically shelved.

Shelved files are written back to disk automatically when they are accessed.

Instructions on how to see which files will be shelved and how to prevent a file from being shelved are provided at the right.

Currently, this is a one-time plan though a decision may be made to do this on a regular basis.

  To see when a file was last accessed:

$ DIR/DAT=EXP FILENAME

To see which of your files will be shelved:

$ SEARCH CLU$MANAGER:SLDOLD.TXT USERNAME

To keep a file from being shelved:

$ SET FILE/EXP=0 FILENAME

This will set the expiration date to the current time.

In addition, any command that reads the file (e.g. TYPE, EDIT, etc.) will cause the expiration date to be updated to the current time.
